Neal O’Connor is a board-certified, fellowship-trained emergency medicine physician who comes to St. Vincent Health from physician-owned CarePoint Health. Born and raised in New Orleans, Dr. O’Connor earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and then attended medical school at his alma mater. He completed residency at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore.

Why is Dr. O’Connor passionate about his medical specialty? “I never know who or what is coming through the door, and I am constantly challenged by the patient presentations,” says Dr. O’Connor. “Emergency medicine allows me the opportunity to intervene at critical times, and hopefully, give patients the best chance for favorable outcomes.”

Dr. O’Connor takes a lot of pride in CarePoint Health, and his associates who staff the ER alongside him. “CarePoint recruits top emergency medicine physicians and PAs in the country and has developed a culture of clinical excellence and compassionate care,” he says. “Our providers strive for consistency in our clinical practices, which ensures every patient receives excellent care.”

After having spent a majority of his career in urban environments, Dr. O’Connor says working in Leadville at 10,000 feet has opened up an entirely new world of medicine. He also admires St. Vincent’s connection to the community and his part in that relationship.

When Dr. O’Connor isn’t treating patients, he’s likely out recreating in the Colorado outdoors. After which, he enjoys good food and music, in keeping with his NOLA roots. Dr. O’Connor and his wife have two young adult children, a dog named Bento and a cat named Foppa.
