Mark Montgomery
Professional Life
Mark is a career educator, having been a high school teacher, a professor, a camp counselor, a pre-school teacher and a French tutor. He has taught at the University of Denver, Harvard, Tufts, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and at a high school in France. Since 2007, he has run a college admissions consulting firm to help students and families navigate the path to higher education. He also consults with Young Presidents Organization and the Rhodes Trust (UK) on competitive college admissions in the US.
Non-Profit Experience
Mark has been involved with non-profit organizations both as a hands-on volunteer and in governance roles. He has been the Executive Director of a non-profit operating under the auspices of the University of Denver and has served on the boards of a community theater in Hong Kong and a children’s choir in Denver. Currently he serves on the board of the Colorado Chorale and is a volunteer assessor for Project C.U.R.E, visiting medical facilities abroad that are requesting donations of medical equipment from the US. He also volunteers with the MAIA Impact School, a school for indigenous women in Guatemala.
The Importance of St. Vincent Health and the Health of Lake County
Mark is excited to support a lynch pin of the community through his work on the Foundation. The economic health of Lake County depends, in large part, upon the physical health of its citizens. St. Vincent Health must continue to provide critical medical support to both the residents and those who visit us. Mark is excited to support the work of St. Vincent and to promote the importance of rural medical resources in Colorado.
Personal
Mark and his wife split their time between Denver and Leadville. As a young boy, Mark grew up in Silver Plume, Colorado, another storied mining town, and he has always loved the history and beauty of Leadville. Mark enjoys reading everything from classic fiction to the day’s headlines and sings tenor in the Colorado Chorale. He is also an avid hiker, skier, and biker.
